The first examination:
My examination by the doctor was as follows:
Medical history
At the start of the visit, Dr. Mireas recorded my medical history.
He asked about my age, past and present medical conditions, daily habits such as smoking and drinking, possible hereditary diseases, any medication I’m on or medicines I take occasionally, and so on.
Clinical assessment

He then made a physical examination of the inside of my nose by endoscopy, recording the results on his computer.
Endoscopy
After the initial examination, Dr. Mireas showed me exactly what the inside of my nose looks like on his computer, and explained that one reason why I had trouble breathing, apart from a deviated septum, was inferior turbinate hypertrophy (when the bony structures inside the nose are too large), and that dealing with it would help improve my breathing.

The solution was rhinoplasty (functional and cosmetic) which would finally help me breathe properly and have a beautiful-looking nose.
Rhinoplasty simulation: I saw my ‘before’ and ‘after’ face in three dimensions
After the analysis of the problems inside my nose, we began a 3D simulation for a cosmetic analysis of the operation.

This took place using the Vectra 3D/M3 System (Canfield Scientific, NJ – USA). The particular system – according to my research in the internet- is consider to be the most advanced in the whole world and it is available in Greece exclusively at the VIP-Rhinoplasty Center.
I was worried about how I would look after my rhinoplasty. And I really wanted to see the results in advance.

The process was very simple and only lasted a few minutes. I sat in front of a camera, the flash went off, and within a minute I could see my face in three dimensions on the computer screen.
The discussion with Dr. Mireas
I began to explain to the doctor how I wanted to look…
“First of all, I want to be able to breathe better... I also want my nose to be straight, without a curve or a bump, and for the nostrils to be a bit smaller…
And most importantly of all, I want my nose to look natural and not like it has been operated on.”

The doctor then explained exactly what was possible from everything I'd said, as well as what would go best with the rest of my facial features.
He showed me the changes that I'd described to him one-by-one on his computer screen. For the first time, I saw my nose changed in exactly the way I’d dreamed of and by the end of the process I could see the final result and was able to compare my face before and after so that I could be certain about the result.
The simulation was really impressive and I could see what I wanted most of all - a completely natural-looking result.
I know that all patients have their own individual demands, but by using 3D simulation, a specialist surgeon like Dr. Mireas can definitely explain all the possible options to them and show them the final result, which I can really say was exactly what I saw in the mirror after the operation.
